Family Reunion 2009

It has been a while since we have updated our blog...Summer is upon us and we have been running non-stop. We made the annual trek to the Allen Family Reunion. We went to 7-Peaks in Provo, Utah for a day and then the rest of the week we spent at Pineview Reservoir just east of Ogden Utah. It was a ton of fun.

Count Your Many Blessings

Well today was a crazy day. We are in the middle of spring break and decided to go meet Rollin for lunch. The kids and I were headed north bound on the 55 freeway right where the carpool lane takes off for the 5 freeway when we got into a car accident. I got the brakes on but there was no where for me to go and we crashed head on into a Range Rover who had got side swiped four lanes over, lost control, spun around and was facing me in the carpool lane. There was a pick up truck in front of me with some dirt bikes in the back and you come up over this little hill so I didn't see the orginal accident and the Range Rover coming across the lanes. All I saw was the pick up truck brake and swerve, so I swerved the other way to avoid the pickup and as soon as the pickup swerved the Range Rover was right in front of me. We had just passed a fire truck right before we crashed so within a minute of the crash they had the lane blocked off and the fire men helped open the sliding door which wouldn't open to get us out since I couldn't get out my side. The kids got to sit in the fire truck so that they were off the freeway until Rollin arrived. We all walked away with burns from the seatbelts and airbags and a few bruises. I am so grateful that the Lord blessed us and we were able to walk away and that Rollin was in town to take care of us. Can't say that the car didn't get beat up pretty bad but who cares about that. Can't imagine that they won't total it. They were pulling all sorts of pieces out of the bottom on the front end and throwing into the car just so that they could get it up on a tow truck. We are a little frazzled and I know we will be sore tomorrow but we can handle that.

Yes We Are Still Alive and Well

Haven't made time for much blogging lately but here are a few pics from the last couple of weeks.

Our best buds Tara and Sean came for a visit last weekend. We had a great time going to the movies, eating out and Kassy and Brittnie's highlight was going to get a pedicure with Tara. We hadn't seen them since last August so we were so glad they made the trip.

RJ posing for his "Great Moments". For anyone who has seen the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach, they take famous paintings and recreate them using live people holding completely still. The kids school do this every year and RJ's class was one of the classes participating this year.

This is the picture that his class was recreating.

The kids were supposed to be washing the dog but RJ decided it would be fun to squirt dad with a squirt gun so Rollin decided that the kids needed a bath too!!! RJ decided he liked his baths a little warmer. Maybe he shouldn't have squirt Rollin. Lexi thought she was defending herself pretty good with her little gun.

Adventure City

The kids were invited to a birthday party at Adventure City. We had never been there before. It has the perfect size rides for RJ and Lexi. They had a great time. We are going to be in trouble with RJ. Having 3 sisters he is very comfortable playing with girls and he already has a "girlfriend"...his 21 year old swim coach Jackie. At the party we finally had to ask him to stop hugging and kissing his friend Jordan (the one in the white shirt) on the cheek.

Halloween Fun

At the pumpkin patch. I was planning on taking all the kids but there were just not enough hours in the day so the day before Halloween Lexi and I went with Kristie and the boys.

Trying to get 3 little ones to all look at the camera at the same time. Not going to happen. We took what we could get.

"Treats through the Streets" in Old Towne Orange. We have been going with my parents every year since Kassy was born. Lexi loves her Papa!!

Our little Anikan and Princess Leia knew that the adult Star Wars junkies are always there. They couldn't wait to have their pictures taken with them.

The older three were all fighting over who Lexi was going to walk with during the Halloween Parade at school so they decided to have her walk with all of them. She walked with RJ and Brittnie and waved and smiled the entire time but by the time it was the 6th graders turn she was finished with the parade. She wouldn't even think about walking again with Kassy.

Instead she ran off to play on the bars and play tetherball.

Then after the parade and the kids went back to class the "6th grade buddies" were coming to visit the kindergarteners. They come every Friday and they read together or do a writing assignment together. Kassy's class is going in this trimester so she is RJ's buddy. He really likes it because all the 6th graders know his name and talk to him because of Kassy. Lexi and I stayed since they were just playing and eating cupcakes to celebrate Halloween. Lexi didn't want to leave school. Who would if you thought it was all about the bars, tetherball, the slide, the swings and cupcakes....I would want to stay too.

Soccer

Brittnie kicked the ball right between the opponents legs...it went up in the air and over the goalies head and scored. She scored two of her teams four goals that game. She has been loving soccer!!

It has been fun to watch RJ. He is still trying to learn the whole game. He is just out there running around having fun.

Welcome Matsumura Family

Rollin's sister Vian and family has been living in Japan for the past 18 years. They decided to move to the states and our moving to Idaho. They flew into LA and we were able to spend half a day with them before they made the rest of their trip. My kids had never met them since the last time they were here I was pregnant with Kassy. They wanted to go to the beach. Even with it being the end of September most of them including my children got in. Crazy!!! Then we did the Ruby's thing at the end of the pier. We were glad we were able to spend a little time with them. At least we will be able to see them every 6 months or so now instead of every 12 years!!!!

Ben and Keiya. Keiya broke her arm and had to get pins put in a day before they left Japan. What a long trip when you are so uncomfortable. She was a trooper.

Rollin's brother Benjamin and sister Vian. Benjamin drove down from Utah yesterday and is turning around and taking Vian and family back to Utah. Then one of the other brothers will drive down from Idaho and pick them up in Utah. What a journey!!!

First Soccer Games

Brittnie warming up as goalie before the game begins. She played goalie during one period, full back during one period and half back during one and sat out for one. They keep the teams so that all the girls get to play 3 out of the 4 periods so no one feels left out. She is having fun.

First Day of School

I know I am a little behind but life is crazy with 3 school aged kids and all there activities. I filled up with gas right after I dropped the kids at school the first day and by the time I pulled in the garage for the last time that night I had 90 miles on the car!!!! Poor Lexi in her car seat for all of that. Thank goodness for DVD's in the car. She's a trooper.

Our wonderful friend Kristie came to do first day of school hair. The girls look foward to this part of the first day. For at least a month before they talk about what they want her to do. Kassy with her new hair style this summer didn't have much choice but Brittnie decided to go wavy and RJ even got in on the action and was all excited to have Kristie do his as well (took about 30 seconds but he thought it was special that she did it and not mom).

RJ was a little nervous but still really excited for his first day of kindergarten.

The Bike Wreck

I thought I would post the before and after picture for those who haven't seen RJ since the wreck. He healed really quickly. He was very blessed that all he lost was one baby tooth.

Labor Day Weekend

We had a fun weekend down in San Diego with my brother Chris and his wife Shaunee in San Diego. We went to Sea World,toured the USS Midway, ate LOTS of food, swam at the pool and just had a nice relaxing weekend before school started.

Everyone was a little tired after a long day at the beach and then having to be out the door by 7:30 for the swim meet....they were troopers.

Kassy waiting for her first swim of the season. She has had a hurt knee and didn't get to swim the first 4 meets of the season. She has Osgood Schlotter's Disease in one knee and will just have to deal with the pain and take it easy when her knee is really hurting for the next couple of years until she is finished growing and then it should go away.

My brother just emailed me this picture. I thought it was cute. He was a brave man. His wife has been in the Phillipines visiting her family this month. He was headed to his house in Oak Hills for the weekend to do some "honey do's" and decided that he wanted company. He took Kassy, Brittnie and RJ with him, without his wife and for overnight. He even got up and made them a great breakfast. This is a guy that gets waited on hand and foot by his wonderful wife.
They love it up there. They ride the quads all day. It is the perfect place for that. There are only dirt roads that lead to the homes so so in areas where there are not homes there are pathways and jumps. The fun of quads and then a beautiful house to go get the dust off in. They had a great time.

Downtown Disney

Brittnie got picked to go help Mattel do some research. About 10 Mattel employees took 8 girls to Downtown Disney to Rainforest Cafe for dinner. They had two girls each paired off with two of the employees. Brittnie and her friend Hannah got paired with the two Barbie Doll designers. How cool is that!! They said that the Barbie image is beauty and they just talked to the girls to see what clothes they liked to wear and how they liked to do their hair and stuff. Then the got to go to Club Libby Lui for a makeover. Libby Lu's is a girl's dream place. They did their hair in an updo, did their makeup, painted their nails and depending on which updo the girls picked they got some accessories to go with it. Brittnie picked the celebrity DJ and got a new toy dog with it's one carring purse and pink collar and pink head set. Her friend's mom that went with her bought them the rock star hair to put in. The girls just had a good time. They didn't even realize that they were "working" and helping with market research. Kassy and Katelyn (the two older sisters) took there annual passes and headed into California Adventure (first time Kassy has gone off with a friend on her own to do that. That was a big step for me!!!) Katelyn also took Kassy into Build-a-Bear and bought her a bear for an early birthday present. They had a great time.

I can't believe it. He is such a good boy. He loves to help, loves his sister's and is such a sweet boy. Don't get me wrong he is ALL boy but he does have his sensitive side. He can't help it having three sisters. He had a great birthday. He loved his new bike. We thought he finally deserved a boy one instead of a pink one spray painted red still with all the white trim.

I Can't Keep Up!!!

I haven't posted in a little over a week and it already seems like so much has happened...what pictures do I post?

Alexis loves to help unload the dishwasher. She does a great job stacking the plastic cups!!! She is so proud of herself.

Summer is just around the corner. Swim practice has begun again. RJ is old enough for swim team this year. He is so excited. After all this time driving his sister's to their practices it is finally his turn. As he was jumping out of the car to run into practice the other day he turned and said, "I LOVE SWIMMING". I am glad he is enjoying himself.

Brittnie trying to get a little homework done while RJ swims. Then she swims. Then we run home to finish up homework before we have to go take Kassy to her swim practice. Poor Lexi. I think she is getting sick of her car seat. Thank goodness for DVD's in the car. I don't know what I would do without it these days. Alexis spends an average of one and a half hours in the car every afternoon running her siblings somewhere. I figure she deserves a movie.

Kassy had to dress in costume and went to Riley's farm in Oak Glen for her 5th grade field trip. There they re-enacted the Revolutionary War. They ground flour, observed a period blacksmith at a waterwheel driven hammer mill and were taught the manual of arms by Revolutionary War soldiers. They were given beef jerky, cheese and bread for lunch. She had a really good time.

Donut Anyone?

We brought the kitchen home from Grandma's house. Lexi got some play food and a new tea set for her birthday. That is where you will find her every morning. Out making tea, eating a donut and doing the dishes. She was so excited to have her own "freezer" and "microwave". I love this age where their little imaginations are coming to life.

We had Good Friday off of school. Kassy and Brittnie have friends from swimming who are sisters. Kassy went and spent the night at there house and Hannah came over to spend the night at our's. We went for a bike ride up to Mile Square Park. It was a beautiful day.

They had to climb and jump off every rock around the little lake.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXIS

Alexis had such a great time yesterday for her birthday. She woke up and saw her presents on top of the TV. As each of us came down the stairs at different times she took each one of us by the hand and said, "Come with me. Look all my presents. Look stinkerbell present(there was one wrapped in tinkerbell)." Her eyes were all lit up. She got to put her "pretty dress" on and go to church. She loves to get her church dresses on and look in the mirror to see how pretty she is. She took treats in to share in nursery. Then her grandma and papa, aunts, uncles, cousins and some family friends came for dinner to help her celebrate. She was so excited about the Elmo cake. She really enjoyed the frosting. Never ate the cake. Thanks to all for the birthday wishes and for all who were close enough to help us celebrate.

Lexi was helping me make a potato casserole for dinner that had crushed corn flakes on top. She came back after a while to watch it cook. I asked her if the potatoes we made for dinner looked yummy. "Not dinner Mom. It's breakfast." Silly Mom....corn flakes are for breakfast.

Vacuum Training

Alexis loves to help. Kassy was vacuuming and I walked in and Alexis had gotten her elmo vacuum out and was trying to help. She doensn't mind standing next to the real vacuum but she won't touch it. Little does Alexi know she was "helping" in more ways then one. Kassy doesn't normally have that big of a smile on her face when she is doing one of her chores. But she liked having Alexis around to show the ropes to. Kassy is hoping to get Brittnie trained next to help take over. Kassy just doesn't realize it is more a height thing then anything. It helps to be taller than the vacuum.

Don't Go To Work Daddy

Rollin has been out of town the last 3 weeks during the week and last weekend we only got him for 28 hours (pretty hard on the kids when you can count his time home in hours). He was working at the local office yesterday morning but when he was leaving and said he was going to work Alexis lost it. To her when dad is "leaving for work" he hasn't been coming home until the end of the week. She cried for a good long while after he left. This was as she was starting to calm down. We tried to reassure her that dad would be home for dinner but when you're not quite 2 that is a hard concept to grasp.

Kassy's Events

Kassy at her choir concert. There were 7 elementary schools, 2 Jr. High's and the High School's Combined choirs that put on a Concert this week.

Kassy listening to her ipod getting herself psyched up for her next race. She cut time on all her races this weekend...She took 3 seconds off her 50 free. She did great!!! She even swam in the final heat on her 100 breast and took 8th place overall in her age group of about 55 girls. She has been doing great for only swimming competitively for 6 months. Go Kassy.

Kassy is becoming quite a beautiful and talented young lady. She is keeping herself busy with her daily piano practice, homework and swim practice. Then you add Activity days, piano lessons, chores and just trying to be a kid. She is really learning to manage her time well to get everything done. She is growing up too fast. She is such a huge help to me. We are so blessed to have her in our family. She is such a great example to her younger sisters and brother. WE LOVE KASSY!!!!

Tết: Vietnamese New Year

The girls had a Tết celebration at school yesterday. Tết is the most important and popular holiday and festival in Vietnam. It is the Vietnamese New Year which is based on the Chinese calendar. Tết is celebrated on the same day as Chinese New Year. The kids at school wore tradition Vietnamese clothing. The Asian club from the high school came and performed. They had some performances by kids at the school and one of Brittnie's friends mom is a "popular" Vietnamese performer and she sang some New Year's songs. They had some parents bring in some traditional food to try. Kassy loved the eggrolls.

They fed oranges to the "lion" for good luck. They called it a "lion" but RJ thought it looked more like a dragon.

I was meeting my friend to take some Valentine Pictures of Alexis and her son...It was a crazy morning and it didn't happen so I got some pictures of Alexis. She is only 6 weeks from being 2 so we can count it as her 2 year old pictures. RJ wouldn't leave until he got to take a picture too. He was having a bit of a crazy hair day, but who can resist that smile? That is the smile that just melts my heart.

Christmas/NewYear

We had a great Christmas and New Year. We hope everyone else did as well. We made it thru Christmas day but shortly after Alexis got the stomach flu and then passed it on to the rest of the family. A picture of the moon during the crazy fires that swept through here. No, the lens was not dirty and it doesn't snow here in sunny California, that is all the ash that was falling for a week. There was a layer of ash on anything outside. It smelt like you were standing next to a roaring campfire all week. If you were outside too long your clothes and hair smelt too. You couldn't see the sky. It was eerie. We kept the kids inside most of the week. The smell and ash were so thick and the air quality so bad.

Alexis found a stack of pumpkins just her size. She was in heaven. She tried to pick up every one of them.

It has been a tradition to come to this pumpkin patch every year. Kassy was swimming away at practice. Tinkerbell, a ninja, a witch and Hannah Montana (she didn't want to wear the wig that nite)

We went to El Torito for dinner. Good thing we were there before the Friday dinner rush. Things were a little loud and crazy. They girls were having a blast.

And then we hit the mall at South Coast Plaza to do a little shopping.

And then back to our house for cake and presents. Look how grown up she is getting. Tell her to STOP!!!!

September Activities

First Day of School - Kassy is in 4th grade & Brittnie is in1st grade.My friend Kristie (who we call crazy holiday mom) likes to celebrate the different holidays throughout the year. September 19th is "Talk like a pirate day". We had a treasure hunt for the kids in the neighborhood. RJ and Alexis were enjoying themselves. Kassy getting some last minute advice from her Coach Lauryn. She has had three meets in the last five weeks. She qualified to move on to sectionals on October 22. If she does well there she will move on to state. Kassy on the awards stand. "Gymnast Salute!!"Then Kristie (crazy holiday mom - the one reading the book) had an Apple Party to celebrate apple season. They read apple books (10 apples up on top, etc.), played "Apple, Apple, Seed" (duck,duck, goose), apple concentration, had an apple relay, and ate apple slices, applesauce, apple juice and apple crisp. RJ and Sean were enjoying the books.We had our buddy Sean come visit for a few days while he was here in California.

Some Firsts

RJ dislocated his wrist playing around at the pool. It popped back into place on its own but he was in pain for a day or so. He kept asking me to put another band aid on his arm. He thought that would take the pain away. The doctor said he most kids won't keep a sling on but RJ wouldn't take it off. He even had to sleep with it on.

Brittnie lost her first tooth (besides the one that has been broken since she was one) on her birthday. It had barely been loose and she bit into a ear of corn at the ward beach party and it loosened it right up. A little pull and it was out. No crying or anything. She wanted it out!!!

Alexis decided to roll over. Her siblings had just come in from playing outside and she put on a show for the whole family. We all got to see her roll for the first time. Look at that proud daddy in the background.

That was a lot of hard work.

Allen Reunion August 2006

On the Trip to Palisades Reseviour (eastern Idaho and western Wyoming for those who don't know where it is).

The adventure began even before we got to camp. At least Rollin had some helpers.
